INVITATION

On behalf of Rare Breeds International (RBI), the National Institute of Animal Husbandry (NIAH; Hanoi, Vietnam) is pleased to invite you and your colleagues to the 7th Global Conference on the Conservation of Domestic Animal Genetic Resources to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam in September 2008.
Past RBI global conferences have brought scientists and conservationists together with one common goal – the conservation of global farm animal genetic resources – and the proceedings of these meetings have become valuable references on the characterisation and management of Animal Genetic resources.

The conference is part of a series of conferences, started in 1989 in United Kingdom and held in every third year typically in a region that is rich in Animal Genetic Resources (AnGR). Following the traditions of earlier RBI Global Conferences (1991 Hungary, 1994 Canada, 1997 Nepal, 2000 Brazil, 2005 South Africa), the next conference will be held in Vietnam, autumn 2008. The aims are to enforce the Conservation of Domestic Animal Genetic Resources, to reintroduce the AnGR in the agrarian environment, to reinforce the conservation and development of traditional farming.

Theme: THE IMPACT OF THE GLOBALISATION ON THE ANIMAL GENETIC RESOURCES.
It is a great pleasure for the organisers to invite you to participate in this meeting and to ask you to submit a paper or poster on subjects related to the sessions and main topics. We therefore look forward to meeting old friends and making new ones in the global AnGR community and to strengthening the conservation movement through sustainable use of AnGR.

Hoang van Tieu
Director General of the National Institute for Animal Husbandry
President of the Gene conservation Committee of Vietnam

ORGANISERS

The National Institute of Animal Husbandry (NIAH), founded in 1953, conducts research on domestic animals in Vietnam, and since 1995, has devoted more attention to rural development. It has published several studies on the transfer of appropriate technologies for production and on guiding the national policies of sustainable development on animal breeding.
The NIAH has promoted and facilitated the conservation of farm animal genetic resources of economic, scientific and cultural interest to agriculture in Vietnam.
In close collaboration with the RBI board, as principal coordinator, the National Institute of Animal Husbandry is the general organizer of the 7th Global Conference.

THEME:

The Impact of the Globalisation on the Conservation of Animal Genetic Resources

AUDIENCE:

A wide and global audience is welcomed, ranging from conservationists of farm animal genetic resources from around the world, including government representatives, university faculties and students, veterinary scientists, members of zoological/agricultural and production associations, biodiversity conservation experts, farm animal conservationists, private and public animal owners and breeders, geneticists, ecologists, commercial agriculturalists and providers of products and services.

TOPICS:

The 7th Global Conference on the Conservation of Farm Animal Genetic Resources will provide a forum for the interaction and exchange of information and ideas on all aspects regarding the impact of the globalisation of animal genetic resource conservation as a tool for sustainable development. The following topics will be covered in AnGR conservation:
- In situ and ex situ conservation
- Research and application: sustainable farming
- The family farm and conservation
- Farming for the future
- Marketing rare breeds and products
- Agricultural innovation involving indigenous animals and traditional farming practices
- Impact of global changes on local breeds.
- Production characteristics of local breeds

LANGUAGE
The official language of the Conference will be English.

- Válaszok a mezőgazdaság új kihívásaira.
- A mezőgazdasági termelés fejlesztésének lehetőségei a kevésbé fejlett területeken.
